Sashiko is a traditional Japanese stitching technique that was born in the Northern area of Japan hundreds of years ago. Stitched with cotton thread Sashiko was used to strengthen fabric and for heat retention. Over the centuries this practical skill became more decorative eventually becoming a folk art.
